Is the chapel veil extinct?
Apparently not! This booklet gives the reasons, based on Holy Scripture and the Church Fathers, why two young ladies in college wear the chapel veil in the presence of our Lord.
In these two essays the chapel veil is shown as a symbol which helps the faithful understand the vocation and identity of woman, both in the order of creation and in the New Covenant sacrifice of the Holy Eucharist.
The time has come for a restoration of this traditional practice!
The Irish were for many years the Missionaries for the Church – and the Jesuits were in the forefront. Fr. John O’Holohan S.J. is one of these. At 82 years old, he is still doing mission work - now in South Carolina. But for 22 years he labored for the Lord in Africa.
In this little book Fr. John tells of his first months in Zambia and in Part II, sketches a typical day in his life as missionary “spiritual father” to the students at Canisius College in Zambia.
With his characteristic Irish wit, Father takes us on a delightful journey and imparts to the reader a few lessons along the way.
Fr. John O’Holohan S.J. was ordained a priest in 1955. He spent the next 10 years teaching, mostly in Ireland. From 1965 until 1987 he served with the Irish Jesuit Mission in Africa. Fr. John came to the United States to teach Theology in 1987. Since 1988 he has served in parishes; first in Orlando, Florida and now in South Carolina. He is the author of several books including “Know Your Bible”, “My Pocket Prayerbook – Shalom 2000” (see below), “What do Catholics Believe”, and “Tell Me, Soul Father!” He has appeared on EWTN with Mother Angelica. He presently serves in the diocese of Charleston, SC.
Today in America, some people invoke a mythical constitutional principle “separation of Church and State” to inhibit the free exercise of religion. The tension between the authority of God’s law on earth and the secular authority has a long and winding history. In this booklet, the Very Rev. Bede Jarrett traces the difficulties in this struggle. While he concentrates on how the relationship between Church and State developed in the Middle Ages, he does not ignore the attitudes which men have had toward the State from antiquity and in the early days of Christianity before Constantine. From Saint Thomas Becket to Saint Thomas More - even to our own days, this struggle has consumed many great men. By getting the benefit of this historical perspective - we can gain insight into the upheavals of our own day.
"Shalom 2000" by Fr. John O’Holohan, S.J.
The first edition of ‘My Pocket Prayer Book’ was printed in 1971. Nine more editions followed and now you have the eleventh edition, new, revised and enlarged. It still comprises three features in one book — Prayers, Sacraments and Doctrine.
An appendix has been added with suggestions for Spiritual Reading as a help to mental prayer, especially contemplation.
The Holy Spirit is always helping us to pray, but this little book can help bring our distracted minds back to him.
‘We ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will, with all the wisdom and understanding that His Spirit gives’ - Col. 1:9.
‘My Pocket Prayer Book, based on decades of priestly experience in Ireland and in Africa, not only leads people in the way of prayer, but instructs in Christian doctrine and the ways of the Holy Spirit.’ - Tribute by Fr. William Johnston, S.J., author of Silent Music, The Inner Eye - Dublin, Ireland, June 1990
“‘If you can’t pray, say your prayers!’ People often complain that they can’t pray. St. Benedict once advised any followers of his with similar problems: ‘If you can’t pray, say your prayers!’ This little prayer book will be a help for those who want to ‘say their prayers.’” - Review by Bishop Comiskey, Wexford, Ireland — Irish Catholic Newspaper, August 11, 1988
“‘A Compendium and Vade Mecum of the Catholic Faith Today!’ This very useful little prayerbook has prayers for every occasion . . . a wonderful variety of favorite traditional prayers and devotions, as well as other meditations . . . ”

"a most characteristic and delightful study" - Dom Bede Camm O.S.B.
We rightly revere the Holy Innocents as martyrs; but those Crusaders who left all and gave their lives with most sincere desire to restore the right of pilgrims to worship in the Holy Land are not martyrs. Why?
In this small treatise, originally presented at a conference in 1928 on the English Martrys, Fr. Knox explains the criteria for Christian martyrdom with clarity and with examples. He traces for us the evolution of the word and the ideal of Christian martyrdom. He argues against the Modernist heresies with deny absolute truths.
This little booklet enlightens and entertains – yet all the while reminding us that some embraced the crown of martyrdom for the cause of Christ!
“Witnesses is an extraordinary book about love and sacrifice for the Eucharist! Reading it will inspire a greater devotion to the Catholic faith, especially the Mass. Once I began reading, I couldn’t put it down. Once I finished, I couldn¹t wait to share it with others… Having read the book, I feel a greater desire to defend my faith even unto death. Thank you!"
- Dede Laugesen, Director, Holy Baby! DVDs and President, The Rosary Project-
"The gripping stories recounted will inspire not only a devotion to these saints, but also a renewed passion for the holy Mass that these holy men and woment shed their blood to preserve." - The Catholic Answer-March/April 2005
At the dawn of the 20th century, six sermons were preached by a Benedictine priest in commemoration of men and women who loved God more than they loved themselves and who paid the ultimate price for their faithfulness. Now, at the dawn of a new century we can revisit their sacrifices and examine our own consciences to discover how much we love the God who gave us His only Son on Calvary and in the Holy Sacrifice of the altar.
WITNESSES TO THE HOLY MASS and other sermons was originally preached to inspire the faithful of England by recalling the sacrifices of the English martyrs who suffered during the reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. As England needed conversion in those days, so too do our hearts need conversion today! Be inspired by the 40 Martyrs of England and Wales!
Read about Sts. Thomas More, John Fisher, the Carthusian martyrs and many others who won the crown of martyrdom during this upheaval in England.

This is an epic tale of war, heroism, treachery, and tragedy. It is from a time when God and religion were the center of existence for all men and women. This is a story of a woman and the strength she gave her seven sons. It is the story of an old man who realized manhood and wisdom meet in old age. It is the story of a man and his five sons who left everything and sacrificed their lives to restore God’s laws. But mostly it is a tale of the power of faith and prayer – of God’s hand in man’s work.
The story of the family known as the Maccabees took place in the 2nd century before the birth of Christ, when the children of Israel were being persecuted by the Gentiles. Out of one family rose up a father and his five sons to lead the Jews to victory over the persecutors and to restore the Temple that had been profaned by them. One of the Maccabees brothers, Judas, was surnamed Machebeus – that is, the hammer – and thus the family takes on his name – as God’s Hammer against the enemies of His people.
This work is adapted from the 1st and 2nd book of Machabees of the Douay-Rheims version of the Holy Bible, with minor editorial changes for clarity. With the historical context provided from the writings of Warren H. Carroll by way of introduction, this inspiring true story can be thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thus the underlying truths about faith, prayer, and God’s love for His people can be realized from the reading of this oft overlooked book.
From the Publisher's Preface: "Besides being a tale of thrilling adventure and heroism, Requiem Press feels that this book needs a wider readership at this time in history because it is an example especially for men: that it is manly to pray and to worship and to follow the law. It is manly because there is a God who deserves our praise and worship; there is a God who deserves our love because He has loved us first. It is manly to give to one what is due them. God is due our attention!
"This is a story full of war. It is a book of the Old Covenant whose law was “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” - a life for a life. We are men of the New Covenant. Our weapon is not the sword. Our weapons are the sacraments and prayer; and then, God may lead us to action – manly actions, but also actions of the New Covenant – which always are done in the example of Christ Jesus."

The charitable work of praying for the Holy Souls in Purgatory is a practice in which we participate more fully in the Communion of Saints. Prayers for the Holy Souls, once commonly done everyday (and at every meal) by the faithful, are now more rare. We need to make a personal commitment to renew this practice in our own lives and with our families. This simple book, which fits in purse or pocket, has a short prayer for everyday of the week:
Sunday - for the soul most destitute of prayers;
Because this booklet uses larger type, it is perfect for even young readers to use at family prayer.
Let us pray for our departed loved ones and those who have no one to pray for them!
40 pp. $1.85 US/ Available only while supplies last.
What better place to pray for the Holy Souls in Purgatory than in front of our merciful Savior? Our Lord waits for us in the Blessed Sacrament - for us to adore Him. The Holy Souls wait for our prayers so that their deepest longing - to rest in the bosom of Christ - can be realized. We have the Holy Eucharist - the Suffering Souls long for Him!
This simple book, which fits in purse or pocket, is excerpted from "Visits to Jesus in the Tabernacle", an 1898 classic by Fr. Francis Xavier Lasance, who was the Spiritual Director of the Tabernacle Society of Cincinnati. It contains all you need to make a holy hour dedicated to relieving the suffering of the Holy Souls in Purgatory: prayers of Adoration, Thanksgiving, Reparation, and Petition as well as points for meditation.
